Generally not a good combination When connected to Intel Pro 1000 series Ethernet adapters there can be serious problems with this switch. Inability to connect at 1Gbps, strange speeds, dropped packets.
watch it go. This thing just works.
I have a small home network and it's perfect for hooking up my xbox, dvr, and laptops (when i want to hardwire them) in my living room with only 1 ethernet feed to the room. It's fast and easy to use.
plug it in. There is nothing to it.
good stuff. plug in your ethernet cables.
easy as that.
I actually had to purchase 2 due to my setup, and it was STILL less than most 802.11N gigabit routers.Result. I recently setup my PS3 to stream media from my iMac. I am very pleased. Night and day difference. But, since iMac was on 802.11g wifi, and ps3 was connected at 100Mb, anything more than a small digitial camera video clip had terrible skippage.I considered getting an 802.11n gigabit router, but since the ps3/imac are in the same general area, and I have a perfectly capable and durable Linksys wifi router, spending $[.]. (after rebate) on 1 of these was a no brainer.
I tried a number of different things from both ends (you name it, I tried it), but nothing helped with the issue. Unfortuntely, the issue returned a couple weeks ago, but I knew traffic going to the Xbox was going through another GS105 I had on my home network, so I replaced that switch with another one - I had to run out to the store this time - and I'm now back in business again. These switches are great when they work, but after a period of 2-3 years two of the three I've owned started having serious problems. I eventually decided to eliminate the GS105 (initially just plugging the Ethernet cable right into the Xbox360 and then later using an old Linksys Gigabit switch I had) and everything has worked perfectly since. It's a shame about this switch, because they are quiet, sturdy, and inexpensive, but I won't be buying another one. Six months ago I noticed that while using my Xbox360 as a Media Extender - something I do all the time - I started getting a lot of "Network Congestion" messages and horribly choppy video while watching some TV shows I had previously recorded. This had never happened before, and I was pretty perplexed because I hadn't changed anything.
This one looks much better among that entertainment center equipment. This is a good, solid network switch. I have not done extensive speed tests and things like other reviewers have, but I am very please with this switch in the manner that I am using it. I have had no issues with it. The all metal enclosure gives it a sturdy feel. I have this in my living room, replacing an older 100MB switch.
